About The KayaTankTM
The Complete KayaTankTM System
The Complete KayaTankTM System is the only internal bait tank available to kayak fishermen. Its patented design places all components including the KayaTankTM , the Plumbing (Pump, Tubing, Thru-Hull Connectors) and the Electrical (Timer Switch, Wiring Harness, Battery Cable, Battery) inside the hull of your kayak. The only things that are on the outside of your kayak are the waterproof On-Off Toggle Switch, the Screened Nut for the Pump Intake, and the flush mounted Outlet Thru-Hull fitting that lets water out of your KayaTankTM .
This internal bait tank design results in a quieter operation, less drag, a sleeker look, and it eliminates the set-up time before launching in the morning. You'll get to sleep a little longer! It also leaves the deck and the tankwell of the kayak clear for storing fish or other gear and, it just looks cooler than those bulky homemade plastic containers.
The KayaTankTM fits in the center hatch between your knees for easy access to your bait and to keep the water in the KayaTankTM in the center of the kayak.
Another added feature is, it's darn near indestructible. Kayaks with Complete KayaTankTM Systems have been tested by hardcore kayak fishermen in California and Baja since 1997. They have been bounced down Mex 1 on roof racks and rolled through Big Surf many times in big wave landing scenarios, and have never sprung a leak. Conversely, I have seen external bait tanks get smashed and broken in even a small surf roll over.
With our installation instructions, the KayaTankTM is straight forward to install for kayak fishermen accustomed to rigging their own kayak. The detailed instructions are available to download from our web site.
The three main components of the Complete KayaTankTM System are the KayaTankTM, the Plumbing and the Electrical:
The KayaTankTM
The KayaTankTM is a waterproof, flexible bladder that is permanently installed inside the hull of your kayak and is connected to a Pump and an Outlet Thru-Hull fitting to exchange water between the Ocean and your KayaTankTM . Each KayaTankTM is custom designed for each model kayak, so the fit is perfect. It is made specifically for the harsh marine environment.
The Plumbing
The Plumbing consists of the Pump, Tubing and Thru-Hull Connector.
The Pump is a cartridge style pump that you can clean, inspect, or replace, without removing the housing that is sealed to your kayak. The pump, tubing, and thru-hull connector are made specifically for the harsh marine environment.
The Electrical
The Electrical consists of the Timer Switch, the Wiring Harness, the Battery Cable, and the Battery, and are all made specifically for the harsh marine environment.
The Timer Switch was developed by Angler's Yak Shack because off-the-shelf timer switches just were not doing it for kayaking. First of all, you either had to run your 12 volt pump off a 6 volt battery in order to fish all day on a 7 amp/hr battery (which means using a separate battery for your Fish Finder), or use a commercially available timer switch that has too long of an on-off cycle and is not waterproof, and doesn't have any surge protection from your pump, to allow your Fish Finder to run on the same battery. So, again, you are running with two batteries.
Angler's Yak Shack has taken all these frustrations out of the Timer Switch. We built-in circuit protection so your Fish Finder doesn't get "ghost fish" showing up every time your pump goes on, it is potted in epoxy so it is completely water proof , and it has an On-Off Cycle that is designed to work with a small volume tank. Angler's Yak Shack has two different Models of the Timer Switch. One model (Model 7-14) for KayaTanksTM where the waterline on your kayak is about half as high as the waterline in the KayaTankTM , and another (Model 3-17) where the waterline on your kayak is about the same as the waterline in your KayaTankTM . Model 7-14 turns the Pump On for 7 seconds and Off for 14 seconds. Model 3-17 turns the Pump On for 3 seconds and off for 17 seconds.
The Wiring Harness and Battery Cable connect the Battery to the Timer Switch and your Fish Finder. They are made from marine grade wiring, connectors, and adhesive lined shrink tubing, and contain a waterproof Toggle Switch to turn the system on in the morning and off at the end of the day. The Timer Switch does all the work in between.
